Rolex GMT-Master ref.6542
Let’s introduce today our splendid Rolex GMT-Master ref. 6542, the only watch that was the subject of an U.S. Atomic Energy Commission investigation in the late 1950s.
It features: oyster type case waterproof to a depth of 50m-165ft; 1065 automatic movement; a beautiful, chapter ring type, glossy gilt dial turning to brown; Mercedes hands set, with the “lollypop” seconds one painted in white; a fascinating two-tone “roulette” date disc; a totally original and gorgeous transparent bakelite bezel insert, painted in red for daytime and in blue for nighttime.
Its costly manual construction involved engraving the lower side with 24h hour markers, filling it with radium to allow an effective night vision.
